VFP Post 9/11 Caucus and Space Coast DSA Joint Statement on Sudan
The UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been carrying out a genocidal campaign against the people of Sudan since July 2002, with official investigations opening in 2005. Most recently, on October 31st, 2025, the RSF carried out a massacre against the civilian population of El-Fasher in North Darfur, killing thousands of civilians within days. A Saudi hospital was attacked by RSF forces, who murdered medical personnel and patients in a deliberate targeting of civilians.
US officials have called for the immediate cessation of arms sales to the UAE, correctly recognizing that continued US support of the UAE’s war crimes makes Washington complicit in their genocide.
Sudan has survived colonial exploitation and built powerful movements for freedom through revolutionary struggle. What we witness today is a violent backlash against the Sudanese people’s push for self-determination and freedom, led and funded by imperialist powers seeking to continue stealing Sudan’s vast resources. Gold extraction, oil transit routes, and geopolitical control drive the continued colonization of Sudan and other countries in the region, aided by the UAE, Israel, and the United States.
Today, almost two weeks after the fall of El-Fasher, the Sudanese people continue to face atrocities committed by the RSF, including summary executions and widespread sexual violence. Women are suffering in the wake of destroyed maternity hospitals. The fleeing civilians have faced starvation, the mass displacement of tens of thousands of people, and constant bombardment. The complete collapse of humanitarian aid and efforts is imminent. The invasion of El-Fasher was just the beginning; we must continue to act against the genocide in solidarity with the Sudanese people.
We, as members of Veterans For Peace, understand that the genocide against the Sudanese people is not an isolated atrocity but part of the same system of war and domination responsible for the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, the occupation of Haiti, and the plunder of the Congo, driven by US and global imperialism. The wars of empire are interconnected, from Gaza to Darfur, from Niger to Yemen. Tactics used against civilians in Sudan by the RSF mirror the same atrocities we are seeing play out in occupied Palestine. This is why our solidarity must also address every genocide happening across the world, from Sudan to even our own streets in the US.
We demand:
-
An immediate end to all US arms sales and military cooperation with the UAE and Israel.
-
An independent international investigation into the atrocities committed by the RSF and its sponsors.
-
The suspension of IMF and World Bank programs that keep Sudan in debt and under foreign control.
-
The expulsion of UAE military operations from Somalia, Chad, and other staging grounds for proxy warfare.
We Encourage All People of Conscience To:
-
Boycott Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other major tourist cities, and UAE-based corporations, some examples of which are Emirates Airlines and any companies cooperating with Emirates Airlines, gold, diamond, or luxury goods with ties to Israeli or Emirati networks. We recommend Boycat to stand in solidarity with Sudan.
-
Include Sudan in all anti-genocide and anti-imperialist advocacy.
-
Educate your communities on the Sudanese struggle for liberation.
-
Join actions, teach-ins, and solidarity campaigns organized by Sudanese diaspora groups and anti-war organizations. A good place to start is Nas Al Sudan on Instagram.
-
Donate directly to Sudan and Sudanese-led initiatives.
-
Sign petitions such as this one from Amnesty demanding an arms embargo in Sudan. Continue engaging with congressional, senate, and other representatives to demand the enforcement and expansion of the arms embargo (which currently only extends to Darfur) and the sanctioning of RSF-affiliated networks.
At Veterans For Peace, we know firsthand the destruction that US imperialism leaves behind, from Vietnam to Iraq to Afghanistan, and now across Africa and the Middle East. As veterans and organizers, we refuse to be silent while our government and its allies fund genocide. Sudan must continue to be a significant part of our advocacy.
The liberation of Sudan, like the liberation of Palestine, depends on the defeat of imperialism worldwide. Our solidarity is a commitment to the shared struggle of the oppressed for self-determination and dignity.
No to genocide in Sudan.
No to imperialist war.
Solidarity from the river to the sea, from Darfur to Gaza.
