Marine Corps Veteran, Returns Home From Gaza flotilla

October 10, 2025
Three days ago, Marine Corps veteran, Phil Tottenham, was being released from an Israeli jail. Tomorrow, he will hold a news conference at 10:00 a.m., at the Sanger Branch Library on Central Ave., to describe what he and other crewmembers experienced on the Global Sumud Flotilla of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Tottenham a Toledo resident, is coming in from New York City, where he landed Wednesday, on his return from Israel via Jordan.  He was on the Ohwayla, a 46 foot Ketch, one of 43 boats that composed the largest ever civilian humanitarian flotilla to Gaza.  It left Barcelona, Spain on August 31 and after more than a month at sea, was illegally intercepted by Israel in international waters just off Gaza.

The crew of the Ohwayla was composed primarily U.S. military veterans. Tottenham, 47,  is a member of Veterans For Peace and was in the Marines from 1998 to 2002.
