VFP Alternative Memorial Day Event in North Carolina

April 23, 2015
Dear VFPers,

For the past three years, our Chapter 157 of Veterans for Peace has offered to the community an Alternative Memorial Day event -- an evening of reflection in poetry, prose, and song that focuses on the realities of war rather than on its glorification. This year, we'll be doing it again, and we need you to do two things:

#1: Enter the date into your calendar NOW (Monday, May 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.) and plan to come. We'll be holding the program at the Regulator Bookshop again (720 9th St., Durham). And DO invite your friends and neighbors.

#2: If you have written a poem, a song, or a reflection on war of any kind (perhaps an op-ed piece or a short essay) and would like to read it as part of the program, please let me know by Monday, May 4th, so that I can include your name in our media release. OR, if you have a favorite work from another source that you'd like to read, that would be fine, too. AND, If you know of an appropriate work, but are a reluctant reader, please let us know, and we'll enlist someone else to read it for you. (Each presenter will be limited to 10 minutes.)
Please note that since this is Memorial Day (Decoration Day), all work, if possible, should remind us of the senseless loss of life that is war's inevitable consequence.

I'll look forward to hearing from you.
Peace,
Vicki Ryder
