2013 Auburn Armistice/Veterans Day Report

November 27, 2013

chap92_armisticeday9.jpegMore than thirty members of Veterans For Peace from the Greater Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, and North Olympic Peninsula chapters marched on November 9th in near-perfect weather in the City of Auburn's annual Veterans Day parade. This was VFP's eighth consecutive appearance in the parade and we're proud and pleased to have been able to, once again, add our clear, singular pro-peace voice to the messages conveyed by the other parade entries. For the third year in a row we also had a booth in Auburn, staffed by two VFP 92 members.

After the parade, we were pleasantly surprised to be joined on the steps of the Auburn city hall by Victoria Knight, Miss Auburn 2013 , who posed with us for photos. After the parade, about thirty of us enjoyed lunch and good company in Auburn at the first annual VFP Armistice Day spaghetti lunch. We were joined there by Ray McGovern , co-founder of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity . Ray had hoped to march with us but his flight into Sea-Tac was delayed--maybe next year, Ray.

We're grateful again this year to the members, vestry, and rector of St. Matthew/San Mateo Episcopal Church for their hospitality in providing us with parking, bathrooms, hot coffee, and donuts. The church also provided the location for our lunch.
