Auburn Veterans Day Parade, Booth, & VFP Armistice Day Social

Downtown Auburn, WA (parade map )

2013 will be the eighth year for Veterans For Peace to march in the annual Auburn Veterans Day parade , one of the largest Veterans Day parades west of the Mississippi River but last year we almost didn't make it . We, with the help of the ACLU, had to fight for our First Amendment rights .

This year's parade pays "special tribute to the Paralyzed Veterans of America". The City of Auburn is also a "proud" Vietnam War Commemorative Partner and "will be paying special tribute to the service, valor and sacrifice of those who served in the Vietnam War." For a critical perspective on the national Vietnam War commemoration, please see "The Vietnam War and the Struggle For Truth " by VFP member and Vietnam veteran John Grant.

Our victory last year was significant not least of all because our presence is important for the many people who openly welcome us each year, for those who may feel they can only silently support us, and for young people who need to hear a different voice about the military and war. All members of Veterans For Peace are encouraged to march with us this year.

This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
