VFP 159 member Edgar Peara was recently awarded the French Legion of
Honor in Eugene, Oregon. Edgar, 89 years old, was a combat
engineer at Utah Beach on D-Day. This award, the highest honor from the
French government, was for his service in the liberation of France.
The ceremony was quite moving, as the medal was presented by a
representative from the French Consulate in San Francisco, a self
described grandchild of those Edgar liberated.
