The peacemakers: Daniel Ellsberg and Veterans for Peace
Question: Considering all spheres of endeavor, who would you nominate as
Leader of the Year in 2010? Why?
Somethings never change. On December 21st Daniel Ellsberg, the whistle
blower of the Vietnam era who released the Pentagon papers, was arrested
along with 131 people in front of the White House. A majority were
Veterans for Peace who were protesting U.S. involvement in Afghanistan
and Iraq. Yes, Daniel Ellsberg is still standing. But before you
grimace, take note that according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll
released this December, 60 percent of Americans say the Afghanistan war
has not been worth fighting. More revealing is the 2010 Pew Research
Centers survey indicating that 72 percent of Americans believe that the
cost of the Iraq war, both in lives and resources, was not worth it!
