VFP Participates In Witness Against Torture

January 13, 2017

From Mike Marceau, VFP Member

There were at least 100 people in front of the Supreme Court on Wed Jan 11th, as well as 20 "detainees" in orange jumpsuits. Groups participating included Witness Against Torture, Amnesty International, Veterans For Peace. I got there late, so I may have missed a few others.

After a few remarks by group leaders, there were several letters from detainees read aloud. There was also comments from US Army Chaplain James Yee, who served at Guantanamo as Muslim chaplain.

From there the group marched to the Hart Senate Office Building. About half went inside (I did not) to try and present a petition to senators. It was refused. Several people were arrested during this action.

There is a brief news clip on the Witness Against Torture Facebook page. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9LZmJX6RvA
