When: Thursday, March 14th, 2013 from 3:30 PM to 5 PM

Where: Scripps-Poway Parkway and General Atomics Way, Poway, CA

Who: Chapter members and supporters of the San Diego Veterans For Peace

What: As a supplement to it’s weekly anti-drone demonstration outside of the General Atomics facility in Poway, the San Diego Veterans For Peace will be unveiling a 1/5th scale model MQ9 Reaper drone, similar in design to the full scale drone produced by General Atomics here is San Diego. Interested members of the press and public are invited to see the scale model and also see what is is like to see yourself in the cross hairs of the drone via TV monitor. The General Atomics full scale produced version of the drone is often described as the US government’s preferred killing machine.

Why: Since August 2012, the San Diego Veterans For Peace, supporters and friends, have been outside the General Atomics facility in Poway each Thursday, educating the public on the use of drones, both in warfare in other countries and the increasing use of drones over the peaceful skies of the United States. Drones are now becoming an important part of the US military in Afghanistan, and many organizations in the United States are using or considering using drones for a variety of purposes, with little or no oversight by local, state, or federal authorities. The demonstrators continue to ask if having drones over the skies of the United States is reasonable and warranted, given their history and questionable use in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
