Whereas, military planners increasingly describe artificial intelligence (AI) data centers as critical military infrastructure supporting intelligence, surveillance, autonomous systems, targeting, logistics, and future warfare, further blurring the distinction between civilian and military infrastructure; and
Whereas, Veterans For Peace (VFP) members have firsthand experience with how technologies and doctrines developed for war frequently "boomerang" into domestic policing and surveillance, expanding state power while eroding civil liberties and democratic accountability; and
Whereas, AI-enabled surveillance technologies (including automated license plate readers, facial recognition, predictive policing, biometric databases, drones, and massive data collection), together with rapidly expanding AI infrastructure, further concentrate public power in the hands of private technology corporations while pushing extreme financial burdens, resource drain, and environmental damage onto vulnerable frontline communities, often without substantive public participation or democratic consent;
Therefore be it resolved, that VFP opposes the expansion and normalization of AI infrastructure and AI-enabled surveillance technologies that facilitate increasingly automated warfare, pervasive surveillance, corporate concentration, and systems of social control while bypassing democratic oversight and community consent and imposing unacceptable environmental and social costs on our communities; and
Be it further resolved, that VFP opposes the use of artificial intelligence to expand warfare, autonomous weapons, mass surveillance, political repression, immigration enforcement, predictive policing, and other violations of fundamental civil liberties; and
Be it further resolved, that VFP urges its chapters and members to educate the public, working in coalition with organizations defending peace, civil liberties, environmental justice, racial justice, and democratic governance, and encourages all chapters and members to investigate, expose, and oppose militarized AI infrastructure and surveillance technologies within their own communities in pursuit of our shared vision of Peace at Home, Peace Abroad.
