What is Freedom of Religion?

April 10, 2015

Our primary goal as Veterans for Peace Chapter 49 is to achieve a Peaceful and Just Society.  We have served together with people of all faiths, ethnicity, and other backgrounds, and we took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States.  Our Constitution includes guarantees freedom of religion, a principle that mutually permits and respects an individual or community to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance.

We are concerned that in recent years it has become "normal" again for Americans to express hate against others, such as a phobia directed against Muslims.  We believe such hate contradicts the basic principles upon which our American society has been founded.  Our VFP Chapter 49 has taken the position that under the U.S. Constitution and international standards, we are called upon to respect others as human beings.  As veterans, we continue to serve to realize our common ideals of being the best we can be as Americans and human beings.

Please see our VFP49 statement on Freedom of Religion for more information.
