Howard Zinn Fund – 2015 Request For Proposals

February 17, 2015

The VFP Howard Zinn Fund for Peace and Justice will award up to $5,000 this year to support the development of a new grass-roots project that achieves clear outcomes for greater peace and justice.  For more information on the Howard Zinn

In keeping with the national VFP strategic plan, we are looking for proposals that accomplish two mainobjectives:

•     Initiate a project that achieve specific measurable changes toward greater peace and justice.

•     Build local and national networks and mobilize the public to actively support these changes for peace and justice.

VFP chapters that are interested in applying for a Zinn Fund grant should review the Zinn Fund Project Guidelines and submit a Letter of Intent by March 15 to the ZinnFund@VeteransForPeace.org.  The Letter of Intent should include a maximum of one page in PDF format to address the following points:

Applicant Information

Chapter number and location

Project Title

Project team leader name, email, and telephone number

Date project was approved by the chapter members

Project Overview

•     What are the specific changes for peace and justice that will be achieved as a result of your project?

•     How will your project actually achieve these changes for greater peace and justice, including any multiplier effects towards this end?

•     What specific evidence will you use to measure how much greater peace and justice has resulted from your project?

The Letters of Intent will be screened to ensure the proposed projects qualify for a Zinn Fund grant.  The proposed projects will then be evaluated using the criteria indicated in the Guidelines, and the chapter project that has the most potential for achieving measurable changes for peace and justice will be selected.  Over the summer, the Zinn Fund Committee will collaborate with the selected chapter team in the development of their project.  A final award will be made in the fall, and the chapter project will be shared as a model to other VFP chapters for making effective changes for peace and justice.
