Action Alert: Call your Senators and Urge Them to Support the Military Justice Improvement Act (MJIA)

February 13, 2014

mjia_image.jpegWe need Senator Gillibrand's Military Justice Improvement Act (MJIA) NOW!

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, a day set aside to show appreciation for those who are special to us, especially those with whom we have a romance. But it is also V-Day, a day to celebrate and take action as part of a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. Stand in solidarity with the Service Women's Action Network (SWAN) and ask your Senator to support Senator's Gillibrand's Military Justice Improvement Act (MJIA).

Recently, the Associated Press revealed never-before-seen documents indicating that most individuals found to have committed sex crimes on US military bases in Japan do not serve time in prison. The inconsistency with which these crimes were handled was characterized as "chaotic." In some cases, the only punishment was a letter of reprimand.

This treatment of sexual assault by the military justice system cannot continue.

Please call 1-888-907-6886 and ask your senators to support MJIA, and then ask them to share their message of support among colleagues. Our troops deserve justice.

"Hello, my name is ________. I support Veterans For Peace and Service Women's Action Network. Together, we're demanding better justice for military sexual assault survivors. Please support Senator Gillibrand's Military Justice Improvement Act to give service members a fair shot at justice. Veterans, service members, their families, and advocates across the country are watching. More waiting will only result in more injustice."
Thank you for your ongoing support. Together, we can deliver better justice for service members and create historic change.
