The Mission When The Working Group Was Originally Established:

The mission statement of the Veterans For Inner Peace working group will comply with the VFP Statement of Purpose. Our belief is that we can serve the cause of world peace by nurturing peace within ourselves by cultivating the mindfulness practices of awareness, understanding and deep compassion to share peacefully and respectfully with all of society about the deep human and ecological costs of war. Veterans For Inner Peace will provide resources for the development of the individual practice of mindfulness meditation, regional meditation training retreats, yoga, and an on line blog or website dedicated to mindfulness meditation discussion, and links to proven mindfulness resources to cultivate peaceful healing in ourselves, and the world. Veterans For INNER Peace will remain non-denominational, and open to all veteran and associate members of VFP.

With the encouragement from Board President Susan Schnall, our efforts to revive the working group and begin fulfilling our mission have centered on answering this question:

Do We Have the Peace Inside Ourselves to Power the Peace that Our World Desperately Needs?

Our initial response to this question is to offer the Peace Education Program for Veterans, a free 10 week course of 1 hour classes described here: Peace Education Program General Information  and  Facilitated BY Veterans FOR Veterans on Zoom.

Scientific research demonstrates that inner peace acts as the "infrastructure" for public
peacebuilding. It provides the cognitive clarity needed for complex conflict analysis, the
emotional resilience required to survive setbacks, and the positive behavioral modeling
necessary to de-escalate tension in others.

Please register for the program using the form in the second link above, or by using the email address/phone number shown above.

It is with gratitude that we recognize VFP colleagues, Joey King and Ron Landsel, who established, and then served as coordinators of this group.
