VFP 2009 CONVENTION A "SUCCESS!"

Almost 350 members of Veterans For Peace, Military Families Speak Out, and Iraq Veterans Against the War gathered at the University of Maryland, College Park, to organize, educate, and re-energize!  One associate member said it well when she said:

HIGHLIGHTS

The 2009 Convention was full of fantastic workshops, speakers, and ideas!  Some of the highlights include workshops specifically on military sexual trauma, Afghanistan, and "Where We Go From Here."

One of the principal speakers was Shazia, a representative from the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan.  Shazia spoke of the horror of living in Afghanistan,  "The people of Afghanistan have three enemies:  the Taliban, the Karzai government and warlords, and the US soldiers."  Video and audio of her presentations will be available soon.

The banquet featured Phyllis Bennis, Chris Toensing, and Bill Fletcher Jr., editor of www.blackcommentator.com.  Bill elegantly brought together the theme of the convention, "Moving From Hope to Action" suggesting guidelines for where we need to go from here!
